Keys, Locks and Door Handles

Unlocking and locking the house doors

The handles and locking mechanisms for the external doors in Trelas are all like the following image.

The doors may be locked and unlocked using a key from the outside; for health and safety reasons the operation of the lock from the inside does not require a key.

When locking the doors whether from the outside or inside it is first necessary to lift the handle fully upwards. It is not possible to turn to lock in the door until this is done.

The Keys

Here’s an explanation of the keys for Trelas.

On arrival at Trelas you were provided with two keys, most likely provided in the keysafe at the top of the steps. These are for the two side entrances to the building.

In addition there are a number of keys hanging in the wall cupboard in the utility room:

Top entrance
This key is labelled ‘Top door’ and is one of the
keys provided to access Trelas for the first time.
Utility (bottom) entrance
This key is labelled ‘Bottom door’ and is the
second of the two keys supplied.
Patio door
You will find this key, labelled ‘Patio door main’
hanging on a hook in the cupboard in the
utility room. This key operates only the main
patio door.
Bi-fold door
This key, labelled ‘Patio door fold’, is also in
the cupboard. It is required to fully open up the
patio door. To open, insert the key in the lock
and turn, then rotate the black handle above the
key and push on the doors - they will open
outwards.
Garden store
In the cupboard you will find a key labelled
‘Garden store right side’. This opens the right
hand store that you will find in the lower garden
level (note that the left store is for private
use).
Gate to decking
In the cupboard you will find a key labelled
‘Decking gate’. This opens the tall gate between
the steps beside the house and the decking. Note
that there is also a bolt on the steps side of
this gate.
Gate onto the lane
In the cupboard you will find a key labelled
‘Lane gate’. This opens the gate that leads onto
the lane from the bottom of the garden. Note that
that there is also a bolt on the inside of the
gate.

The keys kept in the cupboard in the utility room are shown below:
